OVERVIEW:
The Knox Community Health Service has a 10 chair Dental Clinic which provides a full range of dental services to the community including:
• Early Childhood Oral Health Program
• School Dental Program
• Youth Dental Program
• General Adult Dental Services
• Emergency Dental
Early Childhood Oral Health
Eligibility: Pre-School 0-5 years of age
Cost: General Treatment
Non-Health Care Card/Pension : $27.50 per course of care
Health Care Card/Pension: Free
Emergency Treatment: Free
School Dental Program
Eligibility: All primary school children
Children in years 7&8 whose parents have a current health care or pensioner concession card.
Cost: Non-concession cardholders pay a fee of $27.50 per child
(maximum $110 per family) per course of care
Current health care or pensioner card or if your child is enrolled in a Special or Special Development School. Free
Emergency Treatment: Free
A Course of care includes a dental examination and all general treatment.
After the first course of care is completed you will be sent out a letter of offer for further treatment in two years. Children who are assessed as high risk will be seen every 12 months.
Youth Dental Program
Eligibility: Students in secondary school (years 9, 10, 11 and 12) and adolescents aged 14 to 18 who may have left formal schooling can use the service if they or their parents hold a current health care or pensioner concession card.
Cost: Health Care Card/Pension: Free
Care is available once every two years.
Youth with more serious dental needs may be seen every 12 months or less.
General Adult Dental Services
Eligibility: If you are over 18 years of age and hold a current health care or pensioner concession card you are eligible to go on a waiting list for general dental care.
Cost: A treatment fee of $22.50 per visit, up to a maximum of $90.00 per course of care.
Acrylic dentures will generally cost less than $105.
Emergency dental treatment
Emergency dental treatment is available for patients who have a healthcare card or are on a pension. Dental problems that are classified as an emergency dental treatment include:
• Severe toothache and pain
• Swelling around teeth, in the mouth or face
• Severe bleeding from gums or following extractions
• Accidents involving injury to the face or mouth
When you contact the Knox Community Health Dental Service your dental condition will be assessed and treatment arranged within one month if required.
If the clinic does not have any available appointments you may receive a voucher for treatment from a private dentist.
