KOAP (Knox Options Alcohol Program)
The Knox Options Alcohol Program (KOAP) represents Police and Community Services working together to prevent and reduce alcohol related problems in our local community. In particular KOAP targets problem drinking in public places. People may be issued with an infringement notice for alcohol related incidents in the city of Knox, however, they do have the option to attend a counselling session instead of paying the fine.
ATOD Counsellors from Knox Community Health Service are able to assist participants referred via this program to recognise the negative affect alcohol may have on their lives and session/s include information about the long-term effects of alcohol and education about low-risk or safer alcohol consumption.
Access: Via an infringement notice and contacting the Intake Team on 9757 6200 to schedule and initial appointment.

What the Tobacco Free Clinic offers:
• Full 1 hour assessment of current smoking and health related needs
• Support and supervision of nicotine replacement therapy or exploration of other quit options
• Individual follow up sessions
• Relapse prevention support
• Flexibility – 2 sites, 2 days, phone consultations available
We are using the most up-to-date, evidence-based research and practice that is available to support you in your journey to becoming smoke-free.
Cost: A once only fee of $15, payable at first session
Service availability: Friday at Ferntree Gully & Wednesday at Wantirna from 9:00am-5:00pm

The ATOD Counselling program at Knox Community Health Service (KCHS) is a counselling treatment program, funded by the Department of Health and Ageing.

Recovery the Mindful Way
Recovery: The Mindful Way is an eight week group program focusing on mindfulness based relapse prevention strategies, for those with substance use issues. This program provides participants with the opportunity to experience mindfulness skills and increase self awareness in a safe and supportive environment. The program also explores the automatic pilot’ experience, triggers, cravings, acceptance, skilful action and self care.
Mindfulness is paying attention on purpose to the present moment with compassion.
The cost of the program includes two supportive resources: a book and accompanying CD for practicing mindfulness skills. For more information contact reception on 9757 6200 to register your interest.

Lifeline’s 13 11 14 service is staffed by trained volunteer telephone counsellors who are ready to take calls 24-hour a day, any day of the week from anywhere in Australia. These volunteers operate from Lifeline Centres in every State and Territory around Australia. Lifeline answers around 450,000 calls per year from people needing emotional support.
Anyone can call Lifeline. The 13 11 14 service offers a counselling service that respects everyone’s right to be heard, understood and cared for. Lifeline also provide information about other support services that are available in communities around Australia.

Reconnexions
Reconnexion (formerly TRANX) is a not for profit organisation co-founded by Lis Burtnik and Gwenda Cannard in 1986 to provide counselling and support for people dependent on tranquillisers (benzodiazepines) and to raise awareness of the risk of dependency associated with long term prescribing of benzodiazepines. The benzodiazepine program actively promotes understanding and awareness of the complications associated with long term use of benzodiazepines, both among the medical profession, government and in the community.

Australian Community Support Organisation (ACSO) – Community Offender Advice & Treatment Service (COATS)
ACSO is a community support organisation which assists some of the most highly disadvantaged members of our community, in particular those with complex presenting issues or offending history.
COATS is a state wide service funded through the Department of Human Services (DHS). Its role is to provide a comprehensive drug and alcohol assessment, and then develop a treatment plan for forensic clients who have come before the criminal justice system and have a treatment component to their Community Order or parole.

Choper - (after hours mobile needle & syringe service)
The Community Health Outreach Program Eastern Region (CHOPER), provides a free, outreach mobile Needle and Syringe Service. The CHOPER team can be called between 7.30pm to 11.00pm every night of the year and will deliver clean injecting equipment and receive return of used equipment. CHOPER also provides safe using and safe sex education, including free condoms. Referrals to other services such as drug treatment and health and welfare agencies are also available. The service covers a large area of the Eastern Region west of Lilydale and Belgrave.
